 Hi,

I'm currently deploying a dotnetnuke 4.9.1 on a webserver and I want to use active directory authentication. My problem is the AD server is inside the company and not the webserver.

Is there a way to use remote active directory (publishing access to the 389 port or using VPN) or does my webserver really need to be in the same domain that my AD? I didn't find information in the documentation about that neither in the forum.

If there is no solution, does the migration to 5.0 will resolve it (for a production server, i prefer to wait the next stabilization release to upgrade but if there is no other solution ..)?

At this point the webserver has to be on the domain. It was always my understanding that it was the only way authentication would work. However that said, last month a couple of users did make modifications to the code that allowed them to authenticate from a webserver that wasn't on the domain but I haven't had time to investigate it further to see how they did it. If I can find the post here in the forum I'll post a link.

Thanks for your answer, I understand better now.

I will look for the user code modification to see if it can bypass my problem.

Cheers,

I've been using ADSI authentication over OpenVPN stably for about a month.  However, the site isn't currently under a full load (not launched yet), so I don't know how it will react when 100 people try to login at once.

For what it's worth, I'm using a colocated server joined to our domain.
