I've been getting this error from time to time and authentication is slow:

Why does this happen?

It's basically timing out. Do you have a lot of DNN groups that it's trying to parse through? I know that's one thing that slows it down and I'm working on getting a more effecient way of handling it but haven't found one yet. It could also happen if a lot of users are hitting the site at the same time and it's trying to process all their logins.

Has anyone solved this? I am seeing this issues on page copies it seems like. What is a lot of DNN Groups? We do have a bunch of roles. I can seem to create the problem on my copy of production. Running out of ideas on what exactly is going on.

Chris, what are your server and DNN install details? If it's DNN 5 then there's a good chance it's fixed in the current beta that's going through the release process.

Your second to last sentence.... you can or you can't duplicate the same problem on your copy of the production server?
