Hi all,

I want that a certain page will be viewed by registered user and there should be a 'User Login' credential whenever a visitor click that link.

I tried it by providing the link to open to Login credential page in Settings of Page in 'Other Settings, but the problem is this page is not opened. Each time the Home page is opening instead to that particular page to be viewed by registered user.

Please help,if anyone can.

Thanks alot in advance.

Regards

Himanshu Joshi.

I'm not sure what exactly you are wanting to do, which page are you trying to redirect to?

Hi Dan,

First of all thanks for your time and concern to my isssue.

My requirement is that a certain page ( say XYZ ) will be viewed only by registered users but simultaneously this link ( XYZ ) will be visible to a normal visitor, means whenever a visitor click that link ( XYZ ) then it would redirect him to Login page where he will have to enter his username and password to view the content of that page ( XYZ ).

I tried it by giving the URL of Login page in settings of page ( XYZ ) but whenever I am login as a registered user and want to view the content of page ( XYZ ) then each time it is opening the Home page.

Hope it will clarify some of my problem. Please let me know if any more thing to get clarified from my end.

Thanks & Regards

Himanshu Joshi.

Okay, I think I see what you are referring to.

First of all, if you link to the login page directly, you will, by design, get re-directed to the home page.  That is because the link was to the "login page", and once you login, you don't have access to it anymore, so it redirects you to the designated home page.

The way to get around that is to link to a resource that is only viewable to registered users.  If you click on that link (the downloads page on www.dotnetnuke.com is a perfect example of this), it will see that it requires authentication and redirect you to the login page, and once logged in you will be redirected back to that link because that is where you were attempting to go in the first place.

Here is where you need to learn how to use the "unauthenticated user" and "registered user" groups in DNN, they are very powerful if you use them right.  One of them will restrict viewing to only people that have NOT logged in, and the other will restrict viewing to only people who HAVE logged in.  Use the security settings on the page or module, and DNN will do the rest for you.

Hello Dan,

Thanks for your valuable guidance and help.By the way,I too found a solution to it.Here it is : I write an informative message of 'Please login to view XYZ' via Text/HTML module with permission to unauthenticated users then I applied an account login module just below it with permission to unauthenticated users. The content of page XYZ is there also but only with permission to registered users. So whenever a visitor click the page XYZ, he/she will see the message to login and the account login modue. After login,he/she will be able to view the content of page XYZ as now the visitor is registered user.

How do you rate this idea of mine ? If any other scope of improvement is there then please share the knowledge.

Its nice to have such an experience person like you to help the newbie like me.

Regards

Himanshu Joshi.
