I have been creating a trio of customer providers (Membership, Profile, and Role) to enable DNN to rely more completely on generic ASP.NET providers. Some of the things I am leaning on are:

-          Complete reliance on external Membership providers with no synchronization required ever
-          Complete reliance on external profiles, including the ability to pull all information form multiple external enterprise directory providers including OpenLDAP and AD, again with no synchronization provided
-          Ability to use external business objects to determine role membership, on either a per-portal or entire host basis.
 
I have it appearing to work, for the most poart. Somewhere (I think when I was working on Profile) I lost the ability to log out. I click the log out, something happens, and it re-loads the previous user information.
 
Anyone have any ideas?

Are you doing anything via a HTTPModule? They get triggered every page refresh so if you're checking to see if a user is logged in and if not passing through the authentication scheme then they'll be logged in everytime they try to logout unless you set some conditions on the code. (e.g. with the AD provider the cookie gets changed to reflect that they're already logged in so the user doesn't get redirected to WindowsSignin.aspx until the cookie has expired).
