Im using DNN 5.0.1 until 5.1.0 comes out and I'm trying to figure out how I can import users to the system from Active Directory so that I can set up the appropriate security roles for use on the system. Is there any way to do this? I have heard that I might be able to using a script of some sort but found no information on the actual script.  I'm also trying to get specific information and attributes back from AD when a user goes to the site. Attributes that are contained within the users fields in AD I want to port directly over to DNN. I've tried to add user attributes to DNN for the user profiles and named them exactly like the ones in AD but with no luck. nothing seems to get pulled over. Am I missing something here? I thought it was supposed to do that? Help?

Also I believe I asked awhile back about Authentication Types for the AD Provider and what they meant or did to affect how the provider works. Does anyone have any information on these?

Please Help

Okay, 3rd time lucky.....

The AD provider doesn't import users as a whole, just when the user visits the DNN site for the first time do they get a DNN account created. If you have Roles that match the AD Security group and synchronization checked then they'll be automatically put in the DNN role. John Hoskins did do a module that will mass import users for DNN 4. Whether it will work with DNN 5 I have no idea. (http://www.thatplace.com/DNNModules/tabid/131/Default.aspx).

The provider only pulls in the most basic of profile properties (name, username, email, address, phone, etc). At this point you can't specify which attributes it pulls in. Are you at least getting those attributes pull over? If you want the full list let me know and I'll post it from the code.

I've answered the question about the different authentication types before but can't find it at the moment and I don't have the MS site bookmarked on this computer. I'll see if I can find it again and post it.

awesome, thanks for the link. I'll give it a try.

I am getting the basic information attributes pulle din from AD. that's good. however it won't do it for my account which I find weird. It doesn't seem to dynamically pull the information in each time they log in if there are any changes or if it's different from the one in DNN. If you could post the full list of the attributes that get pulled in that would be awesome. I will probably try and get the source code to see if I can get it to pull additional information in. Any Pointers on where I should look to modify the code a little?

Is that authentication types information available on msdn? I'll take a look and see if I can find it.

Thanks for your response. You reply much faster than any one else on these forums it seems.

If synchronize is checked then it should pull any changes in. It may not be everytime (depends on how long between logins) but it should be fairly consistent. I'm out of town at the moment but will post the full list once I get back. I think the section of code is in the AdsiProvider.vb but I could be wrong.

Yeah I'm pretty sure it was in msdn.
