I have a DNN 4.9.4. installation. Here is what I want to be able to do:

I have a stand-alone listserve server application, L-Soft's LISTSERV, on the same server as the DotNetNuke instance. Ideally, I'd like to enable users who log in to a DotNetNuke portal to automatically be logged in to LISTSERV, and vice versa. Less ideally, I'd like users to at least be able to log in to LISTSERV using their DotNetNuke user login credentials, whether or not they are logged in to the DotNetNuke portal. I do not want them to have to log in with LISTSERV login credentials.

The LISTSERV product implements LDAP, and to authenticate can do a lookup against Active Directory. We do not use Active Directory for our server now.

What I am trying to figure out is how to implement Active Directory in such a way as to have LISTSERV's LDAP do a lookup against Active Directory, but where Active Directory is returning users who are actually in a given DotNetNuke role. The given DotNetNuke role would be the role used to permit access to LISTSERV.

I am a neophyte with Active Directory and the DotNetNuke Authentication Provider for Active Directory. I have been doing some reading but am unable to tell if the DotNetNuke Active Directory provider would enable me to do what I need.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Steve

What you're really looking to do is to create an authentication provider for LISTSERV that queries the DNN database. If your users are not part of a domain then I wouldn't go to the problem of implementing Active Directory. It's only going to cause you more work than it's really worth. The AD provider isn't going to be your answer in this case.
