 DNN version 4.9.0
AD version 01.00.04

We tried a stress test and most of the users were timed out when trying to login via windows authentication. I had them log in by directly linking to mysite/DesktopModules/AuthenticationServices/ActiveDirectory/WindowsSignin.aspx .  The stress test included less than 130 users. If fact only 29 people were able to login in in the first 10 minutes. The users kept getting timeout pages. Any Ideas why the server/network/AD/what ever would get bogged down with so few users trying to login?

Thanks,
Brent

At what frequency were you trying to submit users?  Did you monitor any of the .NET performance counters or system performance information to see if there were any issues with queuing, etc.?

The users were told to go to this address @3pm. mysite/DesktopModules/AuthenticationServices/ActiveDirectory/WindowsSignin.aspx.  That's when the users login timed out for most users. So ~130 people trying to hit that url at once. We offered gift cards to those that found them on the site. Thus we need them to be logged in so we could Identify the users.

Does DNN have built in .net performance counters? Where would I find them?

How many DNN roles do you have on the site? How many (average) AD groups do the users belong to. Are there a number of DNN roles that correspond to the AD groups? 90% of the time that's where the slow down is (as DNN is attempting to synchronize roles with Active Directory). If there's no need to synchronize roles then uncheck Synchronize in the settings and things should speed up.
