I want to be able to create a site comprised of several different apps running on different servers. I would like DNN to be the system that handles user registrations but then I want the other systems to be able to authenticate the user without requiring multiple logins. This will all be under the same domain or subdomains of the main domain.

Has anyone used DNN in a SSO role like this? I know it can be done with Active Directory, but I don't want to setup AD if I don't have to.

Thanks

it depends on the authentication options of the other applications - whether they are able to access same database or a DNN web service (you need to create) to validate login against. However, I am not aware of a turnkey solution existing.

Is creating a web service a more secure method than direct database access? I do have full server access so I could open a port on the firewall to allow connections from a specific remote IP address only. I'm looking at the best way of doing this and I'm a little unclear on how to go about it. What benefits will a web service have over remote db access? Thanks

Hello, I'm looking at doing the same thing - DNN and SSO with other non-DNN subdomains.onmysite.com, but that will see the .DOTNETNUKE cookie.

I'm hoping that a Web Service decrypting the standard .DOTNETNUKE cookie would be able to return the DotNetNuke DNN.users.user_id.
But so far when I try formsauthentication.decrypt("D82ESE.............................")   (my hard-coded DOTNETNUKE cookie)

I've got an exception 'unable to validate data' . Had you been further in your own effort?
