Just upgraded to DNN 04.09.05 and it isn't redirecting to windowssignin.aspx to autologin users as before. I seem to remmeber having to make some change to the web.config and making some permissions changes to a file somewhere? Can someone point me in the right direction please.

What version did you upgrade from? Is the server hardware the same as before? The line you're probably looking for is under the httpModules section and is add name="Authentication"..... There will probably be two lines in there so make sure the second one is uncommented (the first is a legacy line from before the providers were separated from the core).

Upgraded from 4.08. Hardware is different and we're now on IIS 7.5 vs. IIS 6. This is the httpmodules section in the webconfig:

    <httpModules>
      <add name="Authentication" type="DotNetNuke.HttpModules.AuthenticationModule, DotNetNuke.HttpModules.Authentication"/>
      <add name="ScriptModule" type="System.Web.Handlers.ScriptModule, System.Web.Extensions, Version=1.0.61025.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35"
      <add name="Compression" type="DotNetNuke.HttpModules.Compression.CompressionModule, DotNetNuke.HttpModules" />
      <add name="RequestFilter" type="DotNetNuke.HttpModules.RequestFilter.RequestFilterModule, DotNetNuke.HttpModules" />
      <add name="UrlRewrite" type="DotNetNuke.HttpModules.UrlRewriteModule, DotNetNuke.HttpModules" />
      <add name="Exception" type="DotNetNuke.HttpModules.Exceptions.ExceptionModule, DotNetNuke.HttpModules" />
      <add name="UsersOnline" type="DotNetNuke.HttpModules.UsersOnline.UsersOnlineModule, DotNetNuke.HttpModules" />
      <add name="DNNMembership" type="DotNetNuke.HttpModules.Membership.MembershipModule, DotNetNuke.HttpModules" />
      <add name="Personalization" type="DotNetNuke.HttpModules.Personalization.PersonalizationModule, DotNetNuke.HttpModules" />
      <add name="Authentication" type="DotNetNuke.Authentication.ActiveDirectory.HttpModules.AuthenticationModule, DotNetNuke.Authentication.ActiveDirectory" />
    </httpModules>

Lines in red are commented out. Does this look right? If so is there something else we need to do?

No it's the last line in the httpModules section you need. Because of some major changes to IIS between 6 and 7 you have to do some tweaking on the server itself. Check out this thread (http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Resources/Forums/tabid/795/forumid/89/threadid/316627/scope/posts/Default.aspx) for more information.
