What OS are you running this under? If it's 2008 check the pinned posts at the top of the forum (particularly Dan Ball's post)

Ran into the same exactly problem as Richard and opened another thread..  Will see what I come across and see if I can get this working as well..

One issue I've noticed, auto NTLM login within IE is gone.  Development side (with server 2003) would work and allow for this.  Since the copy over (to server 2008), it doesn't work any longer and get the same "permssions" issue.

 Richard, I found a way to resolve this error from popping up.  For the AppPool which your website is configured for, setup it's identify to run under a domain user.  I set this for a normal domain user (no special credentials) and the error disappeared.

After configuring it for the domain user, I recycled the AppPool just to make sure all was well and there wasn't.
