We had everything working alright before upgrading to DNN 7 (from 5.x) and now no one is getting logged in automaticaly.

If they browse to DesktopModules\AuthenticationServices\ActiveDirectory\WindowsSignin.aspx it logs them in just fine - but they used to just be able to hit the site.  Does any one know of any documentation that explains how to set up auto login via AD in DNN 7?  I've read through all the forums but can't find any straight talk.  Willing to pay someone to get my intranet site back up - desperately need help!

Thanks,

PMR

There's documentation on the codeplex project site HTTP://dnnauthad.codeplex.com. The area you're concerned with running under the integrated pipeline. Also, there is an issue with auto login and I've posted a work around in the pinned post at the top of this forum.

I saw the "workaround" post - but a fix for "Auto login not working" could be a fix for any number of reasons it isn't working. It took us months to get it working the first time around so I'm leary of trying every fix proposed on the forums - there are a lot of people suggesting many differnt changes! In any case, I'll try your suggestion as it can't hurt - right? :)

BTW...I posted something else to the forum that may be related to AD authentication. Would you mind checking it out?

Thank you!

I'm going to try to help with both your posts (this one and the one in the Upgrading forum but I can't guarantee anything.

1.) What authentication mode do you have in your web.config? Forms or WIndows? I know some people have see that before but it's been a long while and I can't remember if using impersonation in the web.config fixed it or not for sure but I think it did.
2.) When you moved the files to the new server did you copy/paste, cut/paste, some other way?
3.) Depending on #2 did you double check the permissions on the directory? For IIS 7.x modify permissions are required for the AppPool. I'm just wondering if when you moved the site if permissions didn't get messed up and not knowing what server you were running on before is why I mentioned the AppPool permission (I forget about it every time I setup a new install)
4.) The last one is have you tried removing the AD provider out of the equation to verify if it's causing the problem with the access denied on pages.

I get the impression from your other post that you are getting logged in but your username isn't showing up. An easy way to test whether it's hitting WindowsSignin.aspx or not (which is what generates the auto-login) is to either check your IIS logs or to use a program like Fiddler that'll give you a listing of everything that happens when you go to a website.

Thanks Mike. Your answers:
1)

2) Copy/Paste
3) To eliminate any issues while trying to get things functioning - I give FULL CONTROL to Everyone on the site's root directory. The new server is actually the old server - we moved the site off a few years back and then returned it recently. The app pool is running in Classic mode, .NET 4.0, under an administrative domain user.
4) I have not removed the AD provider. I'm hesitant to undo something - it took so long to get it working several years ago. But, if I must I will back everything up and give it a go.

BTW...I tried the workaround of adding and removing 127.0.0....didn't change anything as far as I can tell.
