I'm not expert in dnn but is there a way to fix this problem:

When a user login they are redirected to the home page rather than the page they were on. Is there anyway to bypass this?

Login as Admin or Host and go to Admin > Site Settings and check the settings to make sure you do not have it set to redirect a yours login to a specific page...
