Hi Mike,

Actually my question as following. My boss asked me if the our DNN site (intranet, windows authentication) using LDAP, I checked thoroughly the site setting and no LDAP setting found, so I told him that LDAP is not used. Then he asked how DNN get the AD user information (tel, email, etc) while user first time logged in. So I came to here get help from DNN comunity. Thanks.

Simply, I'd like to know

1. I can't find any LDAP setting, does that mean LDAP is not used?

2. If LDAP is not used, how does DNN get windows user information when user logged in first time

Thank you very much.

Are your users having to log in manually or are they automatically getting logged in currently? When you try to manually login are their multiple options on the login page (one of which says "Windows Login")?

If you have a Windows Login option then under Admin->Extensions->AuthenticationSystems click the pencil icon beside DNN_AcitiveDirectoryAuthenication so that you can see the settings. How you're connecting to the AD is in the root domain section. If it says LDAP:.// then you're using LDAP. If it says DC=,DC=.com then you're using ADSI. Also these setting are stored in the database in the PortalSettings table (SettingName: AD_RootDomain).

If you don't have a Windows Login option when you try to manually login but your domain users are still getting logged in automatically then the web.config is probably setup to use Windows Authentication instead of Forms Authentication. Look for the tag . If it's set to Windows then your site is using Microsoft's ..NET Framework implementation of windows authentication and I have no idea what it uses (LDAP/ADSI/Something Else).

Hi Mike,

Thank you very very much, that's quite clear.

Currently in my site, users get logged in automatically, but user can log out and log in through login page (form login, i think), this is the way site host user to get logged in. I can't see multiple options in the login page.

I have checked Admin->Extensions->AuthenticationSystems, in the root domain section, just put the domain name such as google.com.

No LDAP:// in front of it or DC=google, DC=Com?
