I have an older 4.0 site with AD on it.  I copied this site to a new virtual server (2012 R2) , upgraded through all steps till I got to DNN 7.04.01, upgraded the Active Directory to 5.0.6, followed every document on this site to get Active Directory working.  Nothing seems to work.  Just want my site to automatically log a person in.  What can I do next?  Thanks!

Hi Brian,

Please test the Glanton extension - "AD-Pro Authentication" that allows you to login to DNN using AD credentials.
If you want to use SSO, please contact with support@glanton.com

So, you're telling me that what I have does not work?  The software that I have running on a 4.0 site will not do the same job on a 7.0 site?  That I need to buy something new to get AD working again?  I need facts!  Why won't the site do this any more?  Server issue?  Software bug?  what?  I need specifics and details for my boss to authorize spending any more money.  Please save the sales pitch for users that have time to waste. Thanks!

Hi Brian

I'm sorry you mistook this as a blatent sales pitch - that was not the intention. I asked Barry to reach out to you as we know there are issues with the community version as a result of changes in the DNN core which manifest when Windows Authentication is enabled across the whole site.

1) Web.api requests are not authenticated - We actually raised this issue with DNN and submitted a fix for it in the core which is now in the latest release. https://github.com/dnnsoftware/Dnn.Platform/pull/440

2) DNN tries to intercept packets and changes them en route. This one is a bit harder but we're working on it (it's very sporadic) The errors look something like [Thread:29][FATAL] DotNetNuke.Web.Common.Internal.DotNetNukeHttpApplication - System.Web.HttpException (0x80004005): Server cannot set status after HTTP headers have been sent.  at system.Web.Http.WebHost.HttpControllerHandler. EndProcessRequest(IAsyncResult result)  at System.Web.HttpApplication.CallHandlerExecutionStep.OnAsyncHandlerCompletion(IAsyncResult ar)

We wanted you to try our free trial to isolate our fix. Then we might be able to do something with the community version.

Thanks

Ian

Hi Brian

I understand your frustration with the DNN core windows authentication module, as we also considered it for a corporate intranet project that we have just completed. For the reasons Ian mentions above and need to have a supported module we did not use the core DNN module.

If you cannot wait for DNN to get the core module working with DNN7 and find yourself looking at the Glantons module, I can confirm it works perfectly with DNN7.4.0. We have complete control over the AD security groups/users  we want authenticated with the DNN site are their details are synchronised effortlessly to our custom DNN profiles.

The module supports single sign on, so all our users seamless access the Intranet.

Good luck in finding a solution

John
