I updated DNN AD Fix for DNN 3.3.5 and made some minor changes.  If someone out there will take my changes and apply them to 4x I would be more than happy to host the files.  I have placed all of my fixes into Gemni so hopefully one day this will just be part of the source.

See below for details...

Stuart

-------------------------------------------------------

This is a Dotnetnuke source update which changes the behavior of the ADSI (Active Directory)component.

When installed on your Dotnetnuke install this update will make it so:

  • All newly created users will now have their Time zone set to the portal time zone.
  • Users profiles are updated from Active Directory every time they access the DNN site.
  • The Display Name field is now populated in DNN from Active Directory.
  • DNN Roles and AD Roles are now sychronized each time a user accesses your DNN site.

This seems like a MUST for any Intranet setup of Dotnetnuke.

  • Great for Intranets!
  • Easy to install, takes a few seconds!
  • Includes easy install instructions.
  • Comes with the source. (:hint: :hint:)
  • Doesn't fade your whites!
  • ABSOLUTELY FREE!

Specifications

DNN AD Fix is for DNN version 3.3.5 ONLY!

Stuart: I'm getting below exception when I try to hit WindowsSignin.aspx:

Method not found: 'System.String System.DirectoryServices.DirectoryEntry.get_Password()'.

PS: Why does DNN 3.x need the passwords be stored in DB? In 4.x no passwords are stored in DB.

Thanks.

Ali.

Ali,

Are you using DNN 3 or DNN 4.  I did not write the DNN AD module so I cannot speak to why they store the DNN password.  Do you get this error before or after you install the DNN AD FIX.

I'm using DNN 3.3.5. And the error appears even before I install your enhancements. Therefore, I believe it is not your code which is producing the error.

However, I was wondering how did AD module team overcome this issue (storing passwords in DB) in DNN 4.x, and why they did not resolve it in 3.x.

Thanks for the reply,

Ali.

I simply can't answer your question.  One of the AD creators would have to address that issue.  My guess is that since 4.x is the future and 3.x is sort of the past, they simply didn't bother to go back and make the change.
