Hi,

I am trying to implement the AD fix for our company intranet - it all seems to be working correctly however looking in the IIS log files something odd is happening.

With anon access turned OFF and with the site in the trusted intranet section of IE, when I request a file (eg http://mysite.com/logo.gif) the IIS log shows three attempts to retrieve the file - two of which my windows account isn't noticed by the server (resulting in a 401) and a final attempt in which my user account is noticed and the file is sent OK(code 200)

Take a look at this:

#Fields: date time cs-method cs-uri-stem cs-uri-query cs-username c-ip cs(User-Agent) cs(Referer) sc-status sc-bytes time-taken
2006-11-16 11:24:57 GET /logo.gif - - 10.149.4.71 Mozilla/4.0+(compatible;+MSIE+6.0;+Windows+NT+5.0;+.NET+CLR+1.1.4322) - 401 1872 0
2006-11-16 11:24:57 GET /logo.gif - - 10.149.4.71 Mozilla/4.0+(compatible;+MSIE+6.0;+Windows+NT+5.0;+.NET+CLR+1.1.4322) - 401 1983 15
2006-11-16 11:24:57 GET /logo.gif - DOMAIN\UserName 10.149.4.71 Mozilla/4.0+(compatible;+MSIE+6.0;+Windows+NT+5.0;+.NET+CLR+1.1.4322) - 200 3882 0

This is also the case for every page and file request made whilst any of my users browse the DNN site - which can't be a good thing?

If I allow anon access then this problem doesn't occur - however users are only automatically logged in when they first access a page on the site - if they refresh or navigate to any other page they become logged out.

With this in mind:

  • Does anyone else see the same 401 issue I have found within my IIS log files?
  • and does anyone know how to use AD with anon access allowed (although within it disabled on WindowsSignin.aspx obviously!)
