I need help with an issue...

I am transitioning my intranet users to the Microsoft user principal name (UPN) format in a Win2003 native mode network to simplify logging in. The format I am aiming for is firstname.lastname@domainname.com. When using the AD synch and auto-login to DNN, I get the domainname\username pre-WIN2K style of format which will just confuse users. In fact, when users log in using the UPN format they end up being auto authenticated against AD again (so the passwords are the same) but it creates a whole seperate account in the above mentioned format. The screwy part is that it understands the UPN format when I first log into the network either directly or through a VPN connection and takes me to the auto login account.

Is there a place in the code where this format is stipulated and can be changed or does it reside in the source code requiring recompiling? Is there any way to avoid having a second account created in the UPN format? That would solve the problem in the short run anyway.

Hal Saville
