IMHO we'd better take out the solpart menu. It is (1) a nightmare to skin, and (2) heavy in web traffic. Regarding the first part: I've seen quite a few implementations where the menu malfunctions because the background has become transparent, or the menu 'jumps' (solpart menu has this problem when taking out borders). I've also noticed that the menu can become real difficult to use in case there are too many albums.

Alternative: no menu. I don't think it's important to display all albums in a menu and think breadcrumbs are enough for navigation. Alternatively one could imagine having (optionally, in case you have many and deeply nested albums) a treeview to the left.

I am not sure completely ripping out the menu is an answer.  It could become an option.
I think skinning the menu is difficult for those of us who don't completely understand it, once you know it I am sure it is relatively simple.
