Hi, I have DNN 3.1 and loaded a gallery. It looks like it is working fine for some days but after a while it crashes and I get these errors

A critical error has occurred.
Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

in the logviewer I see this:

AssemblyVersion: -1
Method:
FileName:
FileLineNumber: -1
FileColumnNumber: -1
PortalID: -1
PortalName:
UserID: -1
UserName:
ActiveTabID: -1
ActiveTabName:
AbsoluteURL:
AbsoluteURLReferrer:
ExceptionGUID:
DefaultDataProvider:
InnerException: The type initializer for "DotNetNuke.Modules.Gallery.Config" threw an exception.
Message: System.TypeInitializationException: The type initializer for "DotNetNuke.Modules.Gallery.Config" threw an exception. ---> System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. at DotNetNuke.Entities.Portals.PortalController.GetCurrentPortalSettings() at DotNetNuke.Modules.Gallery.Config..cctor() --- End of inner exception stack trace --- at DotNetNuke.Modules.Gallery.Config.GetGalleryConfig(Int32 ModuleID) at DotNetNuke.Modules.Gallery.Controller.GetSearchItems(ModuleInfo ModInfo) at DotNetNuke.Services.Search.ModuleIndexer.GetSearchIndexItems(Int32 PortalID)
StackTrace:

IF I then uninstall the module and load the module back (after deleting the files and directory for the Gallery) I can add the pictures again and it works again for some time.

It is just too much work to check if it has crashed and then rebuild all again.

Can somebody help me with this issue?

Thanks

I am not sure exactly what is causing this.  I have only been working with the version that is about to be released lately so hopefully someone else could help you.  I can say that i cover release status in my sub-project blog so check it out.

I had this problem too after parsing together all the recommendations from here I got the Gallery up and working only to have it crash in the same maner but I don't remember the exact error other than it was similar to this one.

What I figured out was that I installed the module as host of course and then added it to a page also as host. When I then added some photos and all was well for anywhere from a few hours to a day or so.

I fixed it by completly deleting the module and then the page it was on.  I then added the page back as user admin then added the module as user admin.  It's been up and working ever since then and you can see it at www.phdavis.com under photos tab.  It's been no problem since 6/17 or so.
