Not sure this is the right forum, but not sure where this would go....

I'm getting the dreaded:

  A critical error has occurred.
Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

This happens when I try to logon with my admin login. (It also happens if I try to change the password on the admin login or just about anything else with the user account admin) I suspect it may have occurred after I installed the blog module.   I had the problem with another logon, but I resolved the problem by deleting the the user name and readding it.  Can't do that with the installed "admin" logon.  System won't allow it; probably for good reason.  Ideas?

Here is the detail log:

never mind.  from site settings, you can change what logon is the administrator (which I have done) which will allow me to delete the ailing admin user logon (which I am chicken to delete and readd...but will do eventually).

Thanig,

It looks like something in your admin account is invalid. The easiest is to delete the account. It can be deleted, as long as you have host access to your site:

  • create a new user and add it to the security role of "Administrators".
  • go to admin > site settings and change the portal administrator to the new user you just created (it's hidden somewhere down the page)
  • go to admin > users and delete the admin user account

(The reason the system didn't allow you to delete the admin account is because it is selected as the administrator of the portal).

Good luck!
