This is great info.  I have a fair amount of experience writing .net code, but could you explain the steps of doing what you described above?  I assume that I have to download the source code for the blog module, open it in VS, and make the change you suggested.  What is the output of the compilation?  Is it a DLL, and where does it need to go so the change affects the live website.  I want to implement this, but I don't want to screw up my live website.

Thanks,
Dave

Hi Dave,

the actual version of the Blog module is still a .NET 1.1 project. You will need to open the project under VS 2003 nd DNN 3. When you finish your changes, recompile the project, and update the DLL files in the BIN directory of your installation. I suggest you an offline testing before.

Best regards,
Dario Rossa

So I'm guessing there is no way to do this with the Express editions of visual studio then, is that correct?  I have visual basic 2008 express and visual c# 2008 express, but since the code is in .net 1.1 and in both vb and c#, I'm thinking I need the full studio to do what I need to do.

Hi Dave,

unfortunately this is not possible, although the Service Pack will make WAP model projects available also for Express editions, thus making possible compiling.

Best regards,
Dario Rossa

Would it be possible for you to compile the necessary bin file(s) to implement the changes for me and either post or email them to me?  I just want the comment to show posted by the person's display name and not their login name.

Thanks.
