Hi,

I've installed the blog module on my site and customised it a fair bit : http://www.workoutbox.com/home/blog/

After analysing the blog's internal linking I've noticed that each child blog can be accessed from two differente URLS.

"News and Features" Child Blog

Archive / Categories (In right Hand Nav) - http://www.workoutbox.com/home/blog/blogid/3/

Blog Topics (Under each blog post) - http://www.workoutbox.com/home/blog/blogid/3/parentblogid/1/

"Workouts and Exercises" Child Blog

Archive / Categories (In right Hand Nav) - http://www.workoutbox.com/home/blog/blogid/2/

Blog Topics (Under each blog post) - http://www.workoutbox.com/home/blog/blogid/2/parentblogid/1/

This isnt great for SEO since I now have two pages with identical content, that can be accessed from two different URL's.  The search engines will see this as duplicate content, which they frown upon.

Is there something wrong with the blog configuration on my site as I am keen to resolve this issue?  Ideally the "parentblogid/X/" should be removed from all URL strings.  Also, is there a way to have teh child blog name included in the URL string, rather than just BlogId/2?

Thanks for your help,

Simon Turner

Simon - I can't find where you're encountering this URL

http://www.workoutbox.com/home/blog/blogid/2/parentblogid/1/

Where is that showing up?

I like the idea of having the blog name in the URL, BTW.  Good idea.

Hi Rip,

This URL http://www.workoutbox.com/home/blog/blogid/2/parentblogid/1/

is linked from the "Workouts and Exercises" category / child blog link on this page:

http://www.workoutbox.com/home/blog/

The problem is with all the links to child blogs underneath blog summary's.  Is this a config error with my blog or is it a bug?  To me it looks like a blog.

Thanks,

Simon

Is there any chance someone else who is using the blog module (and has child blogs) could check to see if they have the same linking issue that I'm describing above?

Thanks,

Simon

Accepted Answer

Hi Simon,

the duplicate link is in the blog list, in the BlogList.ascx control. As far as I know the additional parameter in the querystring is not used, so it may be a good SEO improvement to remove it in the next version, and have one only link pointing to each child blog. Thank you for posting.

Best regards,
Dario Rossa
