Whenever I click on the Trackback link on any blog entry I get this error message "Internet Explorer cannot display this feed" with an explanation of the types of feeds the IE can display. The URL of one of the trackbacks looks like this http://www.domain.com/DesktopModules/Blog/Trackback.aspx?id=7&blogid=3.

Any idea what the problem might be? I have checked this on several computers all with the same result and IE does support these formats: ATOM 0.3, 1.0, RSS 0.91, 0.92, RSS 1.0, and RSS 2.0; and I'm sure that the Blog Module supports at least one of those.

I'm using DNN 4.09 and Blog 3.05.01

Thanks,

John

Hi John,

the trackback address is intended to receive data, not to display it. It should be used by other bloggers when publishing their entries, so that a trackback comment is displayed on the tracked blog. This article on Wikipedia about trackbacks may help you understanding the trackback usage.

Best regards,
Dario Rossa

Dario,

Thank you for your speedy reply. Frankly the Wiki article didn't make much sense to me. (I'm sort of a novice on this). So, why does the link for trackback show on the blog in the first place? If there have been track-backs and then I click on the link, would something then be displayed?

I guess my confusion is why there would be a link visible to users/readers (who are probably mostly novices like myself) that when clicked, would ever give an error or page can't be displayed for any reason? It just makes it appear something is broken.

Hi JK,

that link is there so that your readers may easily right click on it, copy the shortcut and paste it into their blog posts to perform the trackback.

Best regards,
Dario Rossa
