Hi,

I just wanted to know if something was possible and if it is, a few pointers on how to achieve it. Basically I want to have a news section on my site ideally, it would take the last three blog posts and use the blog summary as the news item or something along those lines.

Thanks for any help given,

James

Hi James,

there are different ways to achieve this.

  1. Use an instance of the module XML, and write an XSLT file to grab the title, permalink and summary from the blog's feed.
  2. Use an instance of the module Reports, and write down the sproc to grab the title, permalink and summary straight from the database, sorting them by date. Remember to filter just the entries belonging to your portal.

There are also third party modules and solutions to do this, but I have no experience in them. In any case be aware that your bloggers may leave blank the summary field if you don't forbid this in Module Settings.

Best regards,
Dario Rossa

Or use the News feed module to pick up the RSS – someone else has already written the XSLT for you – although you can supply your own if you do not like theirs.

Hi all,

I have written a super simple XSLT transfromation stylesheet to display the last x entry titles from a blog rss feed. If you need it, just drop me a line. I will upload it on my website and provide a direct link.

Best regards,
Dario Rossa
