Hello

I am not sure what I have done wrong, but I can crash my whole site with the blog.
Basically I added a new page and added the blog module to it (just got latest version).
I then setup a blog and added an existing module to the HomePage to show that person's Blog (think this may be related to the problem).

If I view the blog as an unauthenticated user, the site crashes, and then it crashes for admin as well. The way I got round it was to ftp up renamed .ascx files so that it could not load them OnLoad. This then restored control to me and I could erase the module. I have done some testing, and this is the error that is logged:

ModuleId: 1310
ModuleDefId: 201
FriendlyName: Most recent blog entries
ModuleControlSource: DesktopModules/Blog/MainView.ascx
AssemblyVersion: -1
Method:
FileName:
FileLineNumber: -1
FileColumnNumber: -1
PortalID: -1
PortalName:
UserID: -1
UserName:
ActiveTabID: -1

Message: DotNetNuke.Services.Exceptions.ModuleLoadException: Exception of type System.StackOverflowException was thrown. ---> System.StackOverflowException: Exception of type System.StackOverflowException was thrown. --- End of inner exception stack trace ---
StackTrace:

Server Name: DEDI378

I cleared out the log and in one hit it logged over 250 of these - so it must be a recursive error loop that eventually times out (and then the site goes down until I rename the .ascx files). Any suggestions? I am going to start again but I was wondering if anyone has seen this before.

Rodney,

this is really the first time I hear from a problem like this.

I believe you are right that the problem is related to add the blog module as an existing module instead of adding a module to the page.

If you like to show the blog entries on your homepage I suggest to use an rss feed to display the entries instead of using an instance of the blog module. You will find some sample style sheets for using with the dnn rss feed module in the sub folder \DesktopModules\Blog\Styles

regards

HP

BTW: If I setup the next test environment I will try to reproduce the setup you have described.

Hello HP,

Yes, I now use an RSS Feed on the home page - it MAY have also been something to do with indexing for the core search, but thats just a theory.

Let me know if you need help in reproducing it - it could be a problem if it crashed and someone did not know how to disable it easily, but I guess my configuration was at fault here.
