Hi Chris,

yes, you are correct. At the moment only the user account that created the blog can add entries to that blog. A common workaround is to create a general user account such as "NewsEditor" or "Blogger" and share the credentials (username and password) between the people that will contribute to the blog.

Version 03.xx.xx probably will not be implemented with role-based permissions, but this is one of the key features of the next generation 04.xx.xx that will be completely rewritten.

Best regards,
Dario Rossa

I ended up with this problem too, No Entries where shown for this blog so I figured maybe there's a problem with the dates. I changed the added date to the day before today and it was shown. SO i commented out

in the

Does it really use utc time for added entries?? According to the stored procedure i was talking about it uses @BlogDate IS NULL SET @BlogDate = GetUTCDate().

If

[Blog_ListEntriesByBlog] stored procedure and whaddayaknow. But now it looks like it shows all entriest ignoring any calendar selected date so i tried: E.AddedDate <= DATEADD(dd, 1, @BlogDate) and it seem to work better.

AND

/*AND E.AddedDate <=@BlogDate*/

So do I understand correctly, that blog entry permissions are assigned *only* to the specific user account that created the blog and is not assignable to a role?

If so, is this issue roadmapped for resolution with an ETA?

I'm sorry - is that actually true? Thats not very good at all ... I'm struggling to figure out what settings to use to allow people to create and edit blog entries.  This is what I want to do:

I have a sub portal, lets call it A.  On that portal there is:

- One Blog module, created by the Host account - does this mean only host can edit this blog????? That cant be right surely???

- One user with a role called blog_admin (just a normal role, does not have any portal admin permissions)

- Some users with a role called blog_contributor

- One parent blog.  I want this to be editable only by the blog_admin role, or at least by "John" who is the user with this role

- Some child blogs, one for each person in the blog_contributor role, eg Bob, Jack, Sue, etc.  I want each child blog to only be editable by the one specific user.

- I want any user to be able to comment on any blog, ie this means the registered users role should have comment permission.

I also have a 2nd (and 3rd, and etc) sub portal, with identical features.

Is this even possible?

Thanks

JK.

Hi Jay,

unfortunately this is the big limit of the actual module Blog: one only blog for each user account. This is going to change: in the last few days the team has been debating on how to implement role based management, and I guess we will end up in a good solution in a short time.

Best regards,
Dario Rossa

If you're interested Dario, I made this change to the blog source and would be happy to pass my info on to your dev folks.  Basically I just added an extra column for ApproverRole and AuthorRole to the blog table.  I added  a drop down in the blog settings so the user can choose the roles for approving and authoring.

In a nutshell a group of users can publish to the blog and the Publish button is only active for people in the approver role.  We have 10 people adding entries and 2 people looking them over and approving/denying them.  It would be easy enough to add another column for ViewRole and update the code accordingly.

I went a little nuts to please my users and made blogs with entries needing approval turn red for approvers and I also have it emailing approvers when an entry is submitted.  Much like what you did for comments, but mine is for entries.

Just an fyi and if you'd like me to pass it on to your dev folks let me know and I'd be happy to share.  I have to maintain this going forward now with any new changes you make, but it works exactly how we need it to.
