What is the intended relationship between NewBlog aka Blog and the newly issued Forum Module, will the Blog replace the Forum? TKS,

Prior to it's current version.... the Forum module also installed a module that was called "Blog".  That module used the forum subsystem to implement some blogging functionality.  This was a decent idea, but really prevented the Forum from progressing at the pace it needed too (additional test cases, etc) as well as made enhancement of the Blog functionality difficult.

It was determinted that we would retire the Blog functionality in the Forum module.  So now in its current release it DOES NOT SUPPORT the old "Forum/Blog".  Hans-Peter is working on making an upgrade for the "NewBlog" (now called simply "Blog") module which will migrate old Forum/Blog data into the new format.

I am *supposed* to be helping him with this... *grin*.

Hope that explains it.

Cheers

Sorry to be slow but I still don't understand? Chris Paterra has recently issued a Forum Module, is your Blog Module intended relace the current Forum Module? It seems to me they are similar? TKS,

No, the NewBlog module is not intended to completely replace the Forum Module, however, as Scott said, the previous forum module was actually 2 modules in on, specifically a Forum Module and a Blog Module.
In order to make development of the forum module easier, the blog functionality was dropped, so the current version of the Forum module only supports the Forum feature now.

The NewBlog module will be replacing the blog part of the old forum module.

You are right in assuming that a Forum module and a Blog module are similar. However... they are different enough to hamper eachothers development if they are both part of the same module. The idea behind the dnn subprojects is to create seperate projects for seperate functionalities, so none of the projects are held back by any of the others.

cheers,

Hm, now I have a problem to understand you !

We are talking about two different modules.

A forum module

and a blog module.

As Scott explain in his post, in the older version of the forum module was a second module integrated with do some blog functionality.

Chris has removed the blog part in his forum module.

NewBlog is a blog module which I have developed, and NewBlog has no becomes an official DotNetNuke sub project.

The new (first) version (first version as a sub project) will be called simple blog.

Blog is not a forum module, and the forum module is no blog module. So that we have two different modules for two different thinks.

HTH
