Hi HP

Is it possible to set a particular folder for file and/or image uploads uploaded via the blog interface? I'm digging around the files looking for some sort of hack to do this, but there must be a proper method

Regards,
Rob

Rob,

there is no parameter or anything else which you can change.

If you need this change for your personal use, you can try to change it in the method getEntryDir in the file FileController.

I have never tried it, but I think that should work.

But consider, this is a personal change and it will be overwritten with the next update.

HP

hmmm...  I've found a file called FileController in the DNN4 source, but I can't see any reference to getEntryDir in it or in any of the other source files.

Mind you, even if I find it I'm not actually sure how to get it from the source back into the site... my hacking skills aren't quite up to that yet... though I have downloaded that Visual Web Developer Express and am keen to get to grips with this sort of thing.

I'm definitely also keen to avoid filling up the portal root with a thousand files over the next year... is it feasible that a selectable or even a preset uploads folder would be added to any future releases of the blog?

Thanks for the help,
Rob

Rob,

the file is located in:

DotNetNuke\DesktopModules\Blog\Components\

The blog module is still a normal DNN 3.X module so that you can not use Visual Web Developer Express.

To modify the blog module you must have installed Visual Studio 2003.

Thanks for the prompt response Hans-Peter,

Funnily enough, there is no Components folder inside DotNetNuke\DesktopModules\Blog

I've only got:

App_LocalResources
Images
Providers
Styles

This is on DNN4, however, I've also just checked out my previous week's DNN3.11 install where I first tried out the Blog and that hasn't got the folder either.

Everything seems to work fine and the module installs fine so I'm sure nothing's missing... odd?

Rob

P.s. Hang on!.. I've just found the file in my 3.11 install here: DotNetNuke\Components\FileSystem\FileController.vb

There must be a difference from DNN3.11 to DNN4 as the latter has only one "ResourceInstaller" folder inside Components where the old DNN3.11 has heaps and heaps of folders.

Now I'm definitley confused.. I'll go and have a read of the DNN4 docs and see if I can spot what the story is.
