since you cannot login, I did the command in the MS SQL Server Management Studio Express program.  Click on "New Query" and type in the command.  You can also do Save As... and save this query so you do not have to remember it...

I was under the impression that my service provider was doing daily backups and could restore the database should problems arise.  Evidently this action is at a higher level and is not clearing my transaction log.  When I executed that command, where did the backup go?  Each time I execute that command will it replace the previous?

I can't speak for what your hosting provider offers. I can say that ANY "good" provider will offer you a view through your control panel or directly through SSMStudio to perform some basic tasks, such as performing [client] backups. I shudder at the notion of relying on a host to do a [database] restore...this could take days as opposed to minutes if done by you [the client].

Regardless, your host should offer a secure directory for your backups (accessible only via SFTP). If your host can not offer such a service(s), you may want to rethink where your putting you money and trust.

This topic strikes a particular note with me, one that I learned the hard way over 10 years ago, as a DBA, I leaving nothing to chance with my (and especially my clients) data.
