So I'm following the module creation tutorial in the book (Ch 12 and 13) and have encountered a problem. I'm using 4.3.7, VS 2005.

I have installed the source for 4.3.7 and 3.3.7 into c:\DotNetNuke. But VS can only find 5 of the 30+ development modules? Missing of course is the events module, around which the book's tutorial is based.

Any ideas why all this source is not there? It's not anywhere either as I've searched my system for the relevant .vb files and they're nowhere to be found. In fact there seems to be very little actual source in the source download. I must be missing something.

Most of the modules are still DNN3 modules and can either only be edited in VS2003 or needs to be migrated. I suggest having a look at the DNN 4 developement tutorials of Core Team member Michael Washington at http://dotnetnuke.adefwebserver.com/

Hello.

IMHO, there is another book (quite new) that is better than the Pro DNN 4 book written by the core team, for beginning module development,

that is . . .
"Building Websites with VB.NET and DotNetNuke 4" by Daniel N. Egan, Michael Washington, and Steve Valenzuela.

In fact, one of the authors is a member of the core team.

The chapter on Custom Module Development is excellent. I followed through all the instructions and code to build a simple "Hello World!"

module and the corresponding Edit page with little difficulty. In sharp contrast to getting through the Pro DNN 4 book for the same task

(building a "Hello World!" module), after spending the entired afternoon trying to figure out the proper VS to use and the right source to

download and use to no success, I abandoned utilizing the Pro DNN 4 book.

Please notice, that the Pro DNN 4 has been written before DNN 4 module developement was settled. As additional source of information, I recommend the tutorials by Michael Washington at http://dotnetnuke.adefwebserver.com.
