Anyone know how to export/move an existing dnn site to a new server? I'm retiring one server and need to move a large dnn site to a new server. Windows 2000. I can get a test site installed with a clean install, but I need to move the existing site / settings. I've updated the site sql server connection string and site validation keys. I'm not sure what else I'm missing. Any help would be great, I've looked all over for this info.

Thanks.

you need to copy the complete DNN istallation directory and setup IIS web site correctly on the target server - this should be all.

You could try to create a backup of your site with a commercial backup module, and the migrate it.
Commercial backup modules are available from

www.evotiva.com and www.xpidea.com

Sebastian is right in how to move.
The procedure I use to move a DNN site is the following:
1. Stop Public access to the existing site.  How you do this depends on the level of access to the IIS box.  I stop the site and application pool and start another site that just contains a "Server under maintainance" message.
2. back up all the DNN files used in the site.
3. Back up the DNN database
3. On the new server create a new IIS site ensuring permissions etc are set correctly (refer to the DNN install documents). I leave this site stopped at this stage.
4. Restore all the DNN files into the folder for the new IIS site.
5. Restore the DNN database to the new SQL server and check for access using the credentials the DNN site will use.
6. Edit the connection string in the web.config to use the new SQL server/database/user/password.
7. Change the DNS entries for the sites that the DNN install runs
8. 'Start' the new DNN site.
