Yes, that is exactly how it works ( code is complete and Mike and Barton are testing as we speak )

Without any changes to any templates, you will be able to created nested sub-categories and the checkboxes and radio buttons will work exactly as you demonstrated using the 'breadcrumb' approach..

[ ] Root Level
[ ] Root Level->Sub1
[ ] Root Level->Sub1->Sub2
[ ] Root Level

However, you will be able to change the "Select" setting for "Categories" in your form.xml file, which previous allowed you to specify SINGLE (for radio buttons) or MULTIPLE (for checkboxes). You will now be able to specify a third option, TREE (for a DNNTree Web Control).

Similarly, for the dashboard templates, I added a [TREE] tag which will display the categories in a DNNTree Web Control.

Steve,

Here is my very very (did I mention very) sincere request that you consider Modularizing this code to enable other developers to utilize it in their modules.

The Category/SubCategory capability for selecting, organizing, filtering and sign-ups is a much overdue addition to so many modules.

Examples include:

  • Calendars
  • Links
  • NewsFeeds
  • Blogs
  • Articles modules
  • Forums
  • FAQ's
  • Honestly the list is endless

In my opinion this addition available to developers would constitute a leap forward for DNN in terms of quality offerings.

Not yet. Steve is still going through the bug fixes and the rest of the team is still testing them.
