I've seen some strange things happening with my DNN websites.

I've created a DNN website for a client and given them edit access when they log on to the website (as registered user), everythings fine and works correctly from the clients point of view, but yesterday I view the website (as a normal visitor) from my machine while the user was editing it and I could see the editor??..

If anybody out there knows why this happened could you let me know please!

AFAIK this is not possible as long as you don't grant write permissions to normal users as well.

Hi Sebastian,

Thanks for the reply,  but that's exactly what I told the designer when he found the problem.

I logged onto the site myself  and I also got the editor on the screen. I did this again on a 3rd machine and it was there as well??
All the edit settings on the module and page seem correct!

I've now seen the same thing happen on another website, but with the link module.  After going in and updating the module settings (not changing anything) the problem seemed to resolve itself.

I know I sound like I'm talking rubbish, but the problem definatly happened and not just once, but twice.  I've been unable to recreate the problem, but it's still worrying.

Any ideas???

Yes Strange!!,

I can only think it might have been some datbase corruption, which fixed itself when I did the update on the module settings.

But in case anybody else sees this problem I'll give a  bit of details which might help trace a possible problem in future.

The DNNversion was 3.3.7, The problem was only seen using the text/HTML and Link modules.  Both modules were in a right pane of the skin and when seen the module edit settings also apeared in the right pane (not the main content pane).  All other modules on the page looked correct.  The second time I saw this problem, after the user logged out the module was modifiable by everybody.  When I looked at the permissions settings of the module it said edit permissions were only available to admiistrators and registered users.  When I clicked update on the module settings (without changing anything) the problem seemed to resolve itself.

Thanks for your feedback,
Dave.
