Hi,

Is it possible to get a version with an option to display the publish date with Y/N

Motivation for this question is:
I used the announcement module to make people attend of an exposition.
The title of the ann. is something like this
Exposition (publish date of today = February 02 2007)
In the message area you can enter the start of the exposition for example February 14 2007
A lot of people reading the ann. think that the exposition starts on February 02 2007
When the publish date is paste, they think the exposition is paste.
for example:

Exposition February 02 2007

From February 14 2007 etc etc etc..
the whole story etc etc..

I know that the fist date is the publish date. (as a maker of the ann.)
You know that to (as developer of this module)
Other people (readers) do not know this (there is no sign to tell them "this is a publish date")
They only read "exposition February 02 2007"
I did not know this till some people made me attend of this.
(some friends where calling me to make me attend that I used a wrong date for the exposition!!)

I hope I made myself clear.
Do not hesitate me to ask me for more detail.
Last but not least, thanks for this great module.

With regards, Ton Hermes

Thanks Ton, I've entered the suggestion into the Announcements change management and bug tracking system.

BTW, as a temporary "workaround" you can change the template to be like this:

Exposition
(newsdate: february 02, 2007)
From February 14, 2007 etc, etc, etc
the whole story etc, etc, etc.

I'm not sure i understand what is being asked here. You are saying that the visitors of your site are not able to see the difference between the publish date of the announcement, and the date of the event. That is true, however, i dont see how you would want to make that difference with the announcement module. Of course, we can add an extra field.. eventDate... but that would be outside the scope of this module.

If I were you, i would start using the User Defined Table module, making use of the XSL transformation. You can add different fields, such as pubdate and eventdate, and display it in a proper way.

Again.. i am not sure why you'd want to display a pub date with some announcements and no pubdate with other announcements.....

Hi,
I think the problem in understanding my remark is the difference in how the announcement module is used.
There are more ways in using this module.
Example 1 .
DNN Will tell to the community that there is a new version available.
On the site of DNN there is an announcement of a new version of DNN
the title of that ann. is
New version of DNN available - February 03 2007
(here the body of the ann. etc etc)
This means that this occasion happens today

Example 2.
I like to tell the community that there is an exposition in the future
Exposition - February 02 2007
(I have an exposit on on (another date as above) and etc etc)
This means that I make the community attend of something in the future.
In this example, most people read that an "exposition is hold on February 02 2007".
They do not read the body anymore !!

In the setting of the ann. module the publish date is required.
If the publish date is not required I could make the next example.

Example 3.
Exposition
( I have an exposition date etc etc.)
Here they are forced to read the body of the message

I think the ann. module is perfect for this purpose.
Only the publish date makes a lot of confusing.
Maybe, You as a designer and I, as a former designer, look different to something as a user does.
Users made me attend on this.

I hope you can use this answer.
With regards, Ton Hermes
