I love DNN and have 3 communities ready to run and plan for 10 more within a year.

However…..

I’ve used GoDaddy for DNN hosting for 1 year now – they still don’t have a way to backup the SQL database – after 1 year!!!

We all know DNN is unstable and full of bugs.  The modules sold are riddled with bugs that cause all kinds of side effects.  You need to make a backup of the actual SQL file at least once per day if you have members of your community.  I want to make a "Snap shot" of the files and SQL as a backup to be able to be restored.

The two DNN backup modules currently sold are full of bugs and don’t make a 100% copy of SQL database but produce .XML output.  I've worked with both and each day I discover new bugs for them to patch up.

So I need recommendations for a new hosting provider.  One that is US based, cheap, and allows for automatic SQL backups with historical files kept 30+ days.  Restoration of my community should be a simple “Click” and I’m back to the snapshot of my DNN site the second that backup was made.

Thanks for any input.

Have you tried Evotiva's BackupScript, about $50 at SnowCovered.com? I have been using it for several months for a site hosted at GoDaddy.

It backs up the database into a zip file of SQL inserts and files into another zip file. To do a full restore I have to do a virgin DNN install, install the backup module and any modules that I use, then do the restore. This is because for some reason the backup script isn't allowed to save the table creation script. While I haven't had a reason to do a full restore at GoDaddy, I have used the script to clone my site on my /localhost and it has worked like a charm. The module has a scheduler and does a daily backup for me every day.

While I have my issues with Godaddy for the moment I think I'll stick with the devil I know rather than moving.

Yes, I've used it.  It and the other backup module, XPidea suffer from a problem when modules, like Active Cases, do something incorrect with SQL and they can't restore it.  Both blow up when they encounter Active Cases.  I'm sure there are other modules that may do something incorrect with SQL and cause them to die.

Just because you haven't had the restore part die does not mean that it can't in the future.

At least that's been my experience with both vendors.  I keep reporting weird things like this and the patch their module and tell me to report more problems.

I'm about to go live with my communities and can't afford to have anything that isn't 100% fool proof.

Perry, you get what you pay for with GoDaddy.

The exception to that rule is DNN. It's a great platform, with some incredible talent that is heavily involved.

And as far as aftermarket modules are concerned, there are some great modules available. For example - ActiveForums, DMX, FormMaster, and dozens and dozens of others.

You're 3rd paragraph is full of crap. I don't care to argue with you, and just want to post a response to your posting so that anyone who happens to read it doesn't mistakenly think you know what you're talking about.

First, GoDaddy offers excellent prices - probably cheaper than any other hosting site.  I've used them 1 year they have never been down - once.  They just lack backup facility for the SQL.

Second, I don't know what your are referring to - I'm assuming you have no evidence to backup you claims or you would have presented it.  Just where is that evidence to refute anything I've stated?

Third, I asked for help - you provided none but name calling - exactly what do you expect to achieve?

I appreciate any help given, if anyone has a deep desire to beat their chests and make wild acquisitions just send me a PM, if it exists here.

I appreciate any help given.
