Hey everyone,

I am an experienced DNN user, but trying to install via Starter Kit and SQL 2005.  SQL2005 Express is installed and working correctly.  I am running SQL2005 Express and SQL2000 on the same machine.  I can login to SQL2005 from SiteStudio via

COMPUTERNAME\SQLEXPRESS

I have the correct connectionstrings (everything is default) and am trying to connect via 2005.

<

and

<

add key="SiteSqlServer" value="Data Source=.\SQLExpress;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True;AttachDBFilename=|DataDirectory|Database.mdf;"/>

When I CTRL-F5 from starter kit I get

Error Installing DotNetNuke

Current Assembly Version: 04.04.01

ERROR: Could not connect to database specified in connectionString for SqlDataProvider

add name="SiteSqlServer" connectionString="Data Source=.\SQLExpress;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True;AttachDBFilename=|DataDirectory|Database.mdf;" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />

Change the .\SQLExpress to computername\SQLExpress and you should be ok as long as you have user instances allowed.

Thanks for the suggestion.  Unfortunately, same result.  You mentioned that I need to allow user instances, how can I check if I am allowing it or not?  My current string looks like

<

add name="SiteSqlServer" connectionString="Data Source=COMPUTERNAME\SQLExpress;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True;AttachDBFilename=|DataDirectory|Database.mdf;" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />

User instance ability I believe is controlled under the Surface Area Configuration tool....or it might be done by right clicking on the database and viewing the properties.

I don't have a copy of SQL Express on my current PC so i can't look....

Looks like user instance is set to allow, I ran the SP below and all was ok.  It said I switched from 1 to 1.  I am still at a loss, any ideas anyone?

sp_configure

'user instances enabled','1'
