DNN is not "moving" into the business world. It is entirely immersed in the business world and has been for a long time. All one has to do is take a survey on Snowcovered to see how many businesses are built upon it, or look through these forums and see how many businesses are built upon it.
Just because something is "open-source" doesn't mean that it isn't a business type venture or at least have a business like structure of it's organization.
With the popularity of DNN, indicated by the number of registered members here, the amount of downloads, the amount sites built upon it, etc., it would be entirely unfortunate if the Core Team didn't treat it as such. In fact, I'd be offended if they didn't treat it just as that and would be hesitant to use it as an integral part of my business.

Hmmm, like what someone(s) told someone(s) else to do in some letter(s).
Would it have been any better in your mind had the Core Team came out and publicly stated why people were not asked to return, possibly at the risk of their lively hoods?
I think not. There was absolutley nothing wrong with that letter in my opinion, or rather what little blurb you managed to post.
