As you mentioned that you have access problem using the admin functionality like user account and log viewer.
From stack trace what i am guessing that you have problem in your skins that you applied on the admin section. try to use the default skin on the admin section then check whether the error is occuring or not.

Thanks Baba.  Unfortunately your reply comes a little too late for me as I said in an earlier post that I ended up rebuilding from scratch.  I will however work with an older copy when I get a chance and I'll post the result.

You r more than welcome Nossie. we will make the DNN usage easy for the users. So lets start the troubleshooting for DNN. Also remember to post the actual solution on the forum so that other users can take benefit from this post.
