Mitch - I added BRADS11\ASPNET as a user using SQL Server 2005 Management Studio Express.  I also checked off most of the persmissions.  I detached the database when I was done.

I added Initial Catalog=InstanceDB; as suggested above and got a different, but more promising error:

Unable to open the physical file "F:\DotNetNuke_4\Website\App_Data\Database.mdf". Operating system error 5: "5(Access is denied.)". Could not attach file 'F:\DotNetNuke_4\Website\App_Data\Database.mdf' as database 'InstanceDB'.

I'm running Win/XP Pro SP 2.  It almost looks like a file permissions issue, but unlike Win 2000, when I right click on the .MDF file, I don't have any permissions options.

It did work fine until I opened it up initially with QueryTool, I believe, or it could have been with SQL Server 2005 Management Studio Express - both happened around the same time.

Appreciate your input. Thanks

I have the same problem and with luck even I tried several ways: "sundownr", and " Initial Catelog .....", where is the issue?

Thanks

Here is my error if I use the following connection string:

 <add
      name="SiteSqlServer"
      connectionString="Data Source=.\SQLExpress;Integrated Security=True;Initial Catalog=InstanceDB;User Instance=True;AttachDBFilename=|DataDirectory|Database.mdf;"
      providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />

======================================

The Assembly Version ( [ASSEMBLYVERSION] ) does not match the Database Version ( [DATABASEVERSION] )

ERROR: Could not connect to database.

Could not open new database 'InstanceDB'. CREATE DATABASE is aborted. Cannot attach the file 'C:\DNN\App_Data\Database.mdf' as database 'InstanceDB'. File activation failure. The physical file name "C:\DotNetNuke_Build\Website\App_Data\Database2_log.ldf" may be incorrect. The log cannot be rebuilt when the primary file is read-only.

The SQL Server Management tool  messes with the file permissions if you Attach and then Detach the database.  You have to change the permissions on the .mdf and .ldf file after using the tool

Thank You!  What permissions do I need to change?  I'm running Win/XP Pro SP 2.  Are these persmisisons within SQL server or are they file permisison?  Any addtional details you cna provide would be very much appreciated.  Brad
