It is a very nice video/tutorial... But it is not good make publicity for something that is not able to work with. You are talking about the DNN 4.5 for more than one month (even more). Creating too much expectation. mY guess is the MVP summit and /or CeBIT are guilty (probably both), because you want to present something new and nice. All new features developed in DNN 4.5 looks great. The delay is probale the nature of the change...baby-steps are better way to improve, however quatum leap is necesary once a while.

DNN is a great framework and I will keep using it. However, you made a mistake this time. For me it was a bad move from DNN. Microsoft use a lot this technique, just to test the people, or test the market, and the end the produce vaporware. DNN team... don´t play the same game!.

I respect your work, so do not take me wrong!,

DNN Rocks

It does not matter what we do, people will complain.  If we post the video and release the software on time people will complain about the quality.  If we post the video and delay the release due to some quality issues, people will complain about vaporware.  If we don't post the video then people have no visibility into what we are working on.  Given all of the options, I will choose to provide the information earlier.  The choice not to become a platinum benefactor in order to see the early releases is your option.  This is not vaporware as it has been in production on DNN  for a couple weeks and has been in platinum benefactor's hands for a month.

Sorry, but you take me wrong!,
I am not saying that DNN 4.5 is vaporware, for sure IT'S NOT!. What I am saying is DNN Team make a mistake this time, probable due to MVP Summit and CeBIT (no other thing!). Version  4.4 and 4.5 make an important leap in performance and is very welcome (and very necesary), however tha marketing plan should take distance from 'not good practices'.

Be a platuinum benefactor don't make any difference for this particular issue (promote something that can not be used), be a benefactor, for me, is more related to be in the DNN community and improve it even more (ok...you get a nice support for the active releases). So far I am creating just non-comercial solution (to create other communities), so there is no money yet, but it is my future plan to be involve much more with the DNN community (benefactor and some team).

Again, DNN Rocks!

Regards,

Guys

You forgot to mention the most basic thing in the video...how do you START the installer!!!

You also forgot to mention that you have to download the installer utility from:

 http://www.dotnetnuke.com/DotNetNukeProjects/UtilityInstaller/Downloads/tabid/871/Default.aspx

Before you even get to base 1...

Note:  The video is not intended as an instructional video.  It was merely posted as a way to show people one of the upcoming features (The video was posted before code was frozen so it was still subject to change, and because people didn't have the code it did not make sense to try and fully document the install process).

The installer starts because: a) you navigated to the Install.aspx URL b) you created a new database and new DNN web app and the installer autodetected that it needed to run.

There is no requirement to download an installer utility.  The web based installer is built into DNN itself and is meant for cases where you are doing web installs and don't have access to the web server directly (typical web shared hosting environment).  However, the installer utility is a desktop application that is intended to be used where you have the ability to run applications directly on the webserver (great for installing on your local machine or on you intranet server).

For more information on how to perform and install, see the included installation documentation in the documentation download.
