Forgive me, as I'm sure this has been discussed here before, but I haven't been able to find the right search terms to find anything about it. In 3.2.2, I could have the same user name in different portals. In 4.4.1, if I try to create a username in portal B, but the username already exists in portal A, I get an error. Why? What a pain to my users to not be able to have the usernames they want, because some person in a totally un-related portal already used it.

Thanks!

I don't like this either, but this is the way of the membership provider provided by Microsoft. You can get around this by writing a custom membership provider (as we have). One thing to note, an error should not show if a name is taken, just a message should be shown to the user saying its taken.
