Okay, I know this has to be something I am overlooking but I have started to create child portals based on templates I have created. Each site has a different skin, all of which I have all installed on my main portal. When I create a new portal based on this template, my portal has the default dnn blue skin and errors on each page and each container basically saying it couldn't find the skin. I've basically had to install the skin on that portal and manually change all the pages and containers. This gets a little time consuming as you can imagine. What am I doing wrong? Your help is greatly appreciated :)

Anyone have any ideas? I have tried doing a search of previous post but it is difficult to get accurate searches on here and could find one that was relevant to my issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

If each of your child portals has a different skin, then yes, each batch of skin files should be installed in the corresponding portal. You do not need to go through every page in that portal to specify the skin for that page though . . . you can go to Adimin -> Site Settings screen and there are options where you can change the various skins and containers for the entire portal.

Hope this helps!

Jenn,

Thanks for the reply. The problem is that some of my portals use the same skin. Here is an example- I set up a child portal, installed the proper skin, made all the changes and then created a template of the new portal so that I can duplicate it. Then I go and create a new portal and assign that specific template to it. When I navigate to the newly created portal, it has the dnn blue template applied to it and error messages at every container saying it couldn't find that particular skin. I've even checked and on some of the new portals that skin is already showing in the skins menu as installed. How would people who have the web farms do it if they had to manually install the skin on each portal and change the site settings? Any clues?

Oh, you are talking about exporting portal templates . . . I watched a video tutorial on Nina Meier's site about subportals, and I remember a segment where she exported a portal template and assigned it to a newly created site. The content was successfully merged, but yes, the skin was not applied to the new site (that wasn't the main subject matter of the video tutorial though . . . it was just an extra that was thrown in to demonstrate how to export a portal template.)

Well, then, I don't know . . . may be there is a bug in exporting and applying portal templates? I have not any knowledge about the web farm ways of producing web sites. Sorry
