The idea for this new module came from this conversation but it’s not actually using the same design as OnyakTech.Ads.

oi! I believe it was me back in your support system who wrote this one up .. and I'm looking forward to it.

That's a really good idea.  So, I've added into the module.  You can see it in action now at www.OnyakTech.com on the home page.  The ad will show just one time per visitor.  It's stored by using sessions.

This new addition is a great idea when you only have one ad to display and don't want to irritate the visitor or when displaying critical information that is only necessary to display once per visitor.

This new option is only available in the full release (v1.0.5).  It's not available in the free version.  The free version is free due to the fact that it displays an ad for OnyakTech at the bottom of the module.

Glad I could be of help!

A new version (v1.8) of OnyakTech.Ads is now available.  Changes are listed below:

  • New Visual Layout: The ad or message now displays near the middle of the screen
  • Draggable:  Your message can now be dragged around the screen to allow your visitors to view your page content while still viewing the message/ad.
  • Tab Specific:  You can now create messages for specific tabs in your portal.
  • Editable:  You can now fully edit ads after they have been submitted.

The background image feature was removed since it's no longer needed.  The design of the "PopUp that's not a PopUp" was completely changed to make it even more appealing and useful when displaying important information.

The Free Version has also been updated with these features as well and is available from the Free Downloads page in the Members tab on www.OnyakTech.com.  Enjoy... and keep sending feedback.

I'd say you're on to something here.

Google makes tons and tons of money from advertising and people like Rob (and me too - I hate ads as much as anybody) don't mind the advertising that is literally plastered all over their site. They don't mind for two reasons - One, it's not advertising it's "search results". I would say there is a large number of people who don't even know the difference between the ads and the search results. Two, people don't mind advertisements when they feel they are getting something in return - they get to search the internet subscription free.

So I think it would be really cool (and possibly profitable) if you could make your pop up manager do things in addition to displaying text/pictures. That way you could offer a pop up that does something for the visitor and surround it with advertising. For instance, if you could put in an address box and have the PUM do a Google map search (either within the window or another window). You could do many things along this line, from social offerings (Amber A lerts), map searches, telephone lookups, web cams, (the weather thing is  little lame though), etc. etc.

In other words a tool to take advantage of one of the current opportunities on the net right at the moment:  information consolidation. Just my two cents!
