1). If I install a fresh version of 4.5.0 do I need to install anything else to utilise ASP.NET AJAX?

2). Are there any DNN samples of using ASP.NET AJAX with only part of a module control?  For example I have converted the UrlControl to a Customer Server Control and I want to ajax-it.

3). I was using Telerik Ajax Manager, but I want to keep more in line with DNN and I'm confused on what avenue to go down.

1. You also need AJAX installed on the server

2. Simply put your control in an update panel and have "supports partial rendering" checked

3. No opinion :) I'm going with just DNN

Hi,

but if you check "support partial rendering" why add an update panel because this check box add automatically ALL controls in a update panel ? How can I add only one control in an update panel ?

I think its more of a problem that I do not understand the directions for my case.

What I have right now for example, is I have three controls:  one is a button, another is a label, and the third is a gridView.  I want to be able to click the button, change the label, and not render the gridView again.  Using the partial rendering checkbox,  it will render everything within the module, regardless of what I do on the page.  I do not want this, as its silly to render the grid again when I just want to change the label.

I do not have any asmx files or javascript files to go with it, I was just trying to use the update panel in the AJAX extensions, which is probably why the guide posted is confusing me.

In your case, put the label in an update box. Do not check supports partial rendering. and in your page load put in:

DotNetNuke.Framework.AJAX.IsEnabled = True

Thank you so far for your replies.

I think this may be the last question... DotNetNuke.Framework.AJAX.IsEnabled does not seem to exist.  I looked at the source for 4.05.00 and there does not appear to be a property called IsEnabled (there is a private method called isEnabled())

Am I doing something wrong?  I downloaded all three:  the source, update and install for 4.5 and I cannot see the AJAX.IsEnabled anywhere.  Could someone point me to the right place?  Thanks to all in advance.

Hmm...I'm not quite ready to look at the Ajax, and up until this 4.5 release have only used Anthem.
I have my own server, so not worried there.  But is this "insalling Ajax" something that can be done via FTP on those not-so-feature rich hosting providers?

I'm more concerned about deployment to my customers, if I'll need to ask them if they have a real server or not (before I start tossing in Ajax).
