Hello, I am using godaddy to do a clean root install of DNN 4.4.1, I used the following guide and followed it to the T, I am now in the double digit runs of trying to install -

http://www.mynetnuke.com/tabid/277/ctl/ArticleView/mid/772/articleId/64/Default.aspx

I have had failure after failure, I have used about ten different web.config files and though I am now almost familiair with how the file works, it still haven't made progress.  I have wiped my root and reset permissions, on and on - here is the error I keep getting -

Stack Trace:

[NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.]
DotNetNuke.HttpModules.UrlRewriteModule.OnBeginRequest(Object s, EventArgs e) +962
System.Web.SyncEventExecutionStep.System.Web.HttpApplication.IExecutionStep.Execute() +92
System.Web.HttpApplication.ExecuteStep(IExecutionStep step, Boolean& completedSynchronously) +64

Any and all help is much appreciated, as I am just about to give up on the whole thing....

OK, so I've seen some other people have the same problem as the one I originally posted, I have googled for answers everywhere, and it seems no one really came up with a solution...

I finally got my install to work, I don't know what the exact fix is, but looking back it seems it is a requirement to spend at least a full day with as much help from as many sources as possible to get a godaddy root install to work.  The error I have posted went away and intialized the install after copied Siteurls to my root and re-uploaded my Install file...

Now I have another problem, my page is up, but I cannot login as either host or admin - it's as if neither accounts exist at all!  This is embarrasing as I'm happy to have gotten as far as I have, but now anyone can navigate to my page and the instructions for an admin and host login are right there... there is no admin tab.. or host tab... I've tried everything from user: admin/inistrator pwd: dnnadmin/admin, host login, using my SQL login, hosting manager login, godaddy login... nothing.  I able to create an account, but that's useless - there is no content management without host or admin..

hopefully someone can get back to me on this, my first post obviously had no luck whatsoever.  Your time is greatly appreciated, thank you in advance

The steps I recommend are slightly different than his:

  1. start clean
  2. Create your database
  3. Create the following directories/permissions:

    1. /App_Code                  Read - Write
    2. /bin                                Read - Write
    3. /Config                          Read - Write
    4. /DesktopModules       Read - Write - Web
    5. /Images                        Read - Write
    6. /Install                           Read - Write - Web
    7. /Portals                         Read - Write - Web
  4. WAIT for these to complete! The "pending setup" will go away. This is a very important step.
  5. Setup you web.config file the same way
  6. Make use SiteUrls.config is in the root - because the system will not have write access to copy it there
  7. Using an FTP program like WS_FTP not Windows Explorer/Internet Explorer, upload the files. IE will over-write the permissions, you do not want that.
  8. Then launch the install: http://www.yoursitename.com/install/install.aspx?mode=install

I did this from memory, so I hope I got all the steps if you run into any errors, post back.
