I have the same problem and now my entire portal is down.  It would be great if we could have some expert advise here.

Thanks

I get this problem as well on two different machines (Vista Business/IIS7 and XP Pro/IIS5.1). In both attempts I was connecting to an SQL Server 2000 database.

As stated in other threads I have had this problem before on my local server. It seems in some environments the Install Wizard doesn't work very well in "typical" or "custom" modes. I am able to complete my installations by setting up my database,  configuring the connection strings in web.config (I always use the SQL2000/2005 strings no matter what database I am using) and using the "auto" mode of the installer. You can also deactivate the installer in the web.config file and use the "old method" of installing DNN.

If you use the installer I believe you can go through to check the permissions and database connection then back it up to the mode selection page and choose "auto" and go.

I have had no problem with installations since.

Good luck,

Mike
