I have built a dotnetnuke site on my local machine.  I would now like to move it to a server but I am having problems doing that.  I have done a database backup/restore and copied all the files to my server and setup the virtual directory in IIS, but it does not work.  I just get an IE error when I try to go to the site on the server.

Is there something that I am missing on this?  Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thank You

before creating a backup of your site, make sure to add the future address as portal alias: login as host user, go to portals in host menu, select your portal, scroll down to the far end of the page and click add portal alias.

I am having a similar error. I moved the DNN site from one server to another using backup & restore of the database. I did add the new portal alias before starting the move/backup (and made changes to the web.config). At first I left the old portal alias and when hitting the home page it redirected to the old location. So I manually removed the old portal alias from the database. The home page now stays at the new location but I only get a generic 500 HTTP error. I've done several installs recently, but this is the first generic error and I can't get past it. Any suggestions?

Do "regular" html pages work? Try 500.htm or 404.htm located in the DNN root.
