Is it possible to do enrollment for unauthenticated users? I have events where I do not want the users to go throught the portal registration process.

How would you suggest we do this?  It seems obvious to me that in order for a user to enroll, you at least need a verified email and name...this is not much more than required for registration.  Recommendation:  put on the same page a module telling the user to register in order to enroll...

I agree there needs to be a better way to handle this. Having to tell users to go do something else (i.e. Register on the site) and then they will be able to enroll in an event is too confusing for some users. What I would recommend is to add a new Enrollment Control that requires the user be registered in order to view it.

The Enrollment link would go to this new control, if the user isn't logged in, DNN will display the Login/Register screen, once Registered, the user will be taken on to the enrollment control which can then just automatically enroll the user and do a redirect back to the details page.

Thoughts?

This would more likely be something initiated in the DNN Core, since it will no doubt require a redirection (and return) from the built-in DNN authentication/registration provider.  Currently, the DNN logon control does not support return to a specific page in the workflow that initiated it.

Just my 2 cents on this Alan.  It seems to me that this is exactly the same problem being faced in the Store module.  "How to enable an unauthenticated user to process the order."

IMHO, the answer should be painfully obvious in that all you really need is the person's name and email address for this.  Then the form would autogenerate both a response email, and a "transaction token" of some kind.  That token being then submitted to the DB and kept for referencing the order at a future date.  Then response page would say "Thank You" and display the token for the user and inform them an email has been sent.  If they lost the token, there could be a "lost token" page where they enter their email again and the system re-sends the token to their email address.

An unauthenticated  user would then be able to ckeck on the status of the event and their registration particulars (or in the case of Store, the order) by entering their email address and the token.

I may be looking at this in a "way to simple" way, but seems it would work and not require a core change, just a new table entry in the SQL that creates the table to store the token.
