Use "Network Service" "user" in case of  Win 2003 or WinXP x64. "Inetpub" folder is usually located in the root folder of your system partition.

The DNN documentation is inaccurate in the terminology.

"Change control" sounds like it's telling you to change control of something. It's really trying  to tell you to provide Read, Write and Modify  permissions.  "Change control" means having control to change something.. in this case it means having "permission to modify" something.

If anyone is updating the docs, replace the sentence with:
"- the {Server}/NetworkService user account must be granted permissions to Read, Write, and Modify the root website directory and subdirectories ( this allows the application to create files/folders ). "

Exiton's post with all the images has what you need. And it was important that you realised you had to disable simple file sharing as that interferes with this.

Thank you so much for this wonderful and helpful posts. Yes, thats really funny - As I looked at this "sharing and security" tabs, I was thinking it is probably this "Modify". Sadly I had the feeling this "Modify" gives to many rights to an ASPNET account, as if you open the doors for everything and everybody. You are right "robax", this text is really not very good, it tells only about this specific "change of virtual root" and that let you think it can't be this "Modify" option, at least for someone like me, I expect allways that everything is written total exactly.

I am very happy now, and thank you once more.
