You can move it from your local installation to your hosting providers installation however typically you will need their assistance.

First you add a portal alias for the URL that you will be using on the production site

THen you backup your local database

Then you have your hosting provider restore your backup

THen you update your web.config to point to their DB

Then you copy all DNN files to the server

That should then do it!

thanks mitchel. so is it safe for me to say that i can go to any asp.net 2.0/mssql host later and be assured that i can transfer my DNN site over, without worrying that whether the host will pre-install DNN or not? in other word, i just want to know if i can use any asp.net 2.0/mssql host to host my DNN? thanks!!

For the most part you can go to anyone.....but it isn't 100%.  The reason I say this is that I know GoDaddy.com causes some "issues" if you want to install on the root, and others have some issues with attaching your backups...but yes, for the most part it shouldn't be an issue at all!

Just be sure that if you are moving to a NON root domain location that you put the proper portalalias in otherwise you will not be able to access the site.
